How to Clean and Maintain Glass Surfaces

A method that avoids streaks

• Dust first, so grit is not dragged across the surface
• Work top to bottom in overlapping strokes
• Use one damp cloth to clean and a second dry cloth to finish
• Avoid cleaning in strong direct sun, which dries the solution too fast and leaves marks

Protect the fittings, not just the glass

Water that runs down and collects at the bottom rail, hinge or channel is what causes long-term problems on glass doors and partitions. Wipe those points dry each time. In shower areas, squeegeeing the panel after use keeps hard-water marks from building up.

Hard-water marks

Mineral deposits from dried water droplets are the most common complaint on bathroom glass. They are far easier to prevent than to remove: drying the panel after use is the most effective habit. For existing marks, use a proprietary glass cleaner rather than scraping the surface.

What not to use

• Steel wool, scouring pads or abrasive powders
• Metal blades or scrapers on coated or toughened glass
• Cleaners left to dry on the surface without a final wipe
• Heavy solvents around rubber seals and gaskets
